Puffin Sound is the main entrance to the NW end of the Menai Straits. It is well marked by the black and white banded Lighthouse of Trwyn Du and the red beacon of Perch Rock and the outer approaches by the buoys of Dimoor Bank and Ten Foot Bank. Anchorage in suitable winds may be had just off the beach (to the right of the lighthouse in the picture) to await a suitable tide through the sound but the holding can be poor.
With wind over tide, passage through the sound can be very rough indeed.
